Workshop 'New Business out Innovations; an integral approach'
by Joris Craandijk of Innovative Partners
Why are so many good ideas doomed to fail? Why do we spent so much time, money & energy in innovative activities no one will ever witness any end results?
Many organizations do not understand the differences between the exploitation of current business models and the exploration of making money out of something you have never done before (i.e de core definition of to innovate) Both value enhancing activities require different processes and staff to make it success. Mixing the two will harm the exploration as current business always prevail over future business in term of attention, allocation and priority. Both need only to be linked by means of semi permeable filter to limited the disturbances. The answers need to be found not so much in the lack of ideas, people or money but primarily in the innovation process itself. What is wrong about the process?

Open Innovation Game
by ISPT, the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology
The open innovation game is a simulation of what happens when parties want to collaborate in a consortium and are faced with the challenge to create trust and confidence while simultaneously exploring the opportunities for innovation.
The simulation creates a situation where stakeholders with different backgrounds are brought together and are asked to join forces in a collaboration that aims to bring innovative and more sustainable technology to the market. The second part of the simulation is about what competences organizations must bring to the open innovation consortium and what challenges are left. Entrepreneurial enthusiasm meets academic wisdom and industrial reality in a confronting and insightful workshop that opens your eyes to the psychological aspects of working together.
International Matchmaking Event
A sustainable future requires forward-thinking players: innovative doers who are able to squeeze the most out of every idea and know that the right partnership is stronger than the sum of its parts. Special SME matchmaking activities during the exhibition will match your company profile and specific interests, strengths and needs to those of other innovators.
At ECCE9 | ECAB2, we will organise an international matchmaking event in the fields of chemical engineering, applied biotechnology and process intensification. The matchmaking will pair SMEs with other SMEs, with large companies and with students (MSc & PhD). The goal of the event is for parties to profitably connect for commercial cooperation, technology transfer, European research projects and future employees.
This activity is being organised in cooperation with Syntens Innovation Centre. More information on how to enrol in this programme will follow soon!
Tuesday April 23 (14.00-16.30):
Fluor Workshop: “HOT DECISIONS!Making the difference in heat exchanger selection”
14.00 – 15.15 in the Fluor Cafe
by Shadi Mihandoust & Edwin van Doorn, Fluor B.V.
In this combination of presentation & workshop in a real case study it will be described how in a step by step approach the integration of engineering expertise, application of advanced heat exchanger design and using automated pinch technology can lead to significant energy savings and reductions in investment and of CO2 emissions.
Round-table on Innovation
by Olivier Potier and Mauricio Camargo
Innovation is today at the core of the industrial strategy, and often presented as a condition to succeed. However, when talking about innovation, most of the attention is addressed to the final outcome, whether process or products without taking into account the different stages to achieve it. Indeed, concerning innovation, sometimes confusion is made between means and outcomes.
On the occasion of this round table, different aspects of the innovation process will be discussed. The aim is to tackle the different aspects determining its efficiency; not only technique, scientific or marketing factors, but also the new tools and approaches enabling to manage properly the innovation process. Approaches such as, open innovation, collaborative tools, firm technological strategy integrating the present and future worldwide challenges will be treated: sustainable development, energy use, social responsiveness, and green chemistry among others. The aim is, in a section from 90 to 120 minutes, to share the point of view of experts, practitioners and academics.
Workshop 'Early Stage Business Planning'
14.00h - 15.40h
by The Bridge business innovators
Business thinking about innovations is often an issue. Either the spreadsheet-thinking dominates everything, or calculations on possible margins are (too) late. This workshop provides a hands-on experience of seeking the right balance between idea and profit, and stimulating the discussion between R&D and Business. How to pay adequate attention to all 4 quadrants of a successful business plan? How to keep track of value development during the lifetime of an innovation project? The workshop provides great value for R&D and business developers and gives them a common language.
Workshop 'Value Based Pricing'
16.10h - 17.30h
by The Bridge business innovators
Many innovations, like biobased materials, have a higher cost price than their conventional counterparts. Therefore not easy to sell. That is what many think. Wrong! Few companies think about the customer value created by new products. What drives the customers willingness to pay? The cost you have incurred, or the value the customer experiences. In the workshop we will work with helpful tools and tricks to get a better grip on value based pricing, getting a fair reward for the value you add.nal counterparts. Therefore not easy to sell.
